What Are Headphones?
Headphones are audio devices worn over or in the ears that allow users to listen to sound privately. They come in various styles, including over-ear, on-ear, and in-ear, and are used for music, communication, gaming, and professional audio work.
A Brief History of Headphones
The first true headphones were invented in 1910 by Nathaniel Baldwin, who hand-crafted them in his kitchen and sold them to the U.S. Navy. Initially used for military and telephone operators, headphones evolved rapidly through the 20th century. The 1950s and '60s saw the rise of stereo headphones for home audio, thanks to brands like Koss. The 1980s brought a revolution with the Sony Walkman and lightweight, portable headphones. In the 2000s, earbuds and wireless technology gained popularity, leading to today’s advanced noise-canceling and Bluetooth headphones used across the globe.
