Beautifully touching, the story ends with the giant's death - though children will be comforted by the fact that his later years were happy and fulfilled.

The parallel with the Easter story makes this musical ideal for the spring term. The marks on the boy's hands and feet are the marks on Jesus at his crucifixion. The combination of a charming, thought-provoking story and Val Hawthorne's catchy music is an absolute winner.
